Translating from English to English on MijnWoordenboek shows the definition of a word.
Dutch translation of nuclei
French translation of nuclei
German translation of nuclei
Spanish translation of nuclei

  • deoxyribonucleic: a polymer of subunits called deoxyribonucleotides which is the primary genetic material of a cell, the material equivalent to genetic information
    Category: Medicine

  • nuclei: type of dust counter in which the dust particles are made to serve as condensation nuclei and the drops of condensed water are counted.
    Category: The cosmos

  • nucleic: Either of two types of macromolecule (DNA or RNA) formed by polymerization of nucleotides. Nucleic acids are found in all living cells and contain the information (genetic code) for the transfer of genetic information from one generation to the next, as well as for the expression of this information through protein synthesis.
    Category: Medicine

  • nucleic: a DNA probe relies on molecular hybridisation. When mixed with other DNAs, they hybridise with strands that have a complementary sequence of nucleotide bases. To make a probe for a particular agent, workers isolate and amplify an appropriate segment of the organism`s DNA by cloning in bacterial cells. The cloned DNA is denatured to make a single-strand probe, which is labelled with a radioactive isotope. When the probe is applied to a culture of material taken from a patient, it hybridises with complementary strands. The fact of hybridisation, which indicates that the organism cultured from the patient is indeed the organism that supplied the probe, can be revealed by autoradiography or other techniques
    Category: Medicine

  • nucleic: the process whereby two single-stranded polynucleotides form a double-stranded molecule, with hydrogen bonding between the complementary bases in the two strains. Hybridisation can take place between complementary strands of both DNA and RNA to produce duplex DNA, duplex RNA or duplex DNA-RNA hybrid molecules. This process has made it possible to identify specific DNA sequences by hybridisation of radio-labelled DNA or RNA fragment to a mixture of large DNA fragments that have been immobilised on nitrocellulose filters after transfer from electrophoretic gels
    Category: Medicine
